Wedding Day Prep
Your big day is coming up! Here are a few do’s and don’ts to make the day run smoothly for you, your wedding party and your makeup artist.
Do:
Designate an area in your getting ready space for makeup application. This area should be tidy and equipped with a table and lots of natural light. Have this ready and clutter-free before your artist arrives to make set-up run smoothly.
Have an order for applications in mind. Pro-tip; have you (the bride or groom) sit for your application somewhere in the middle. Your makeup application will be done to last all day and night, and having a spot in the middle will allow your artist to spend extra time with you if necessary, without risking running past your designated getting-ready time.
Tell your wedding party and other guests to have no more than 1-2 reference photos of looks that they love. This will help them communicate clearly with the artist and lead to a faster application process.
Do any personal grooming and hair removal at least three days prior to the big day! Makeup doesn’t adhere well to freshly waxed skin and giving any irritation time to calm down before application will keep skin looking flawless.
Hydrate! Drink plenty of water and use topical moisturizers leading up to your wedding date.
Exfoliate the night before. Ridding yourself of dry or flakey skin will reduce skin texture and lead to a better makeup application. Keep exfoliants gentle and be sure to use products that you and your skin are familiar with.
Have your wedding party and other guests bring a lippie of their choice for touch-ups throughout the day and night.
Have everyone prepared for your artist’s arrival. Anyone having makeup applied should have clean, dry hair and clean skin free of makeup, sunscreen and heavy lotions. Be sure to eat, drink and brush your teeth prior to your turn in the chair!
Don’t:
Try anything new within 8 weeks of the big day! Stick to skin care and treatments that you know work well for your skin and that don’t cause irritation. Don’t try a new fake tanning routine just before the wedding, either.
Forget to eat and drink before getting ready. Your wedding day will be very long and full of excitement! Being fed and hydrated will help keep you feeling your absolute best.
Forget to relax and enjoy your getting ready time! Leave your phone aside, play some music and sip a mimosa. This should be a fun and calm time in your day!
All the best on your big day!
